We used to to watch this spectacular event in our 32″ square box at home during our growing up days.. Even so you feel the atmosphere and when they sing their national anthem “Majulah Singapura” and other of their national day songs, you feel like standing up and pay respect to them eventhough they are not our national anthem. ONLY at that moment when I was very young I wanted to be Singapore citizen because their national anthem is so much nicer than our “Negaraku” – how naive I was then..
Yesterday we have the opportunity to watch the preview of the NDP 2007. This is the first time the national day parade is being held at the floating stage at Marina Bay. We started queuing up to get through the security check at 1645hours. The crowd was increadible and the one thing that astonish me was, Singaporean are so obedient as most of the crowd wore red T-shirts as instructed! There are only 2 entry points to support the security check for 27,000 people and eventhough Singapore is known for their efficiency and effectiveness, it does not feel that it is working yesterday.
We finally reach our seat around 1730 hours.. with our goody bag.. See pic (above) what was in the bag.. 2 bottle of new water (recycle water fr the toilets?), 01 packet of green tea, 01 packet H-Two-O drink, 01 biscuit and 03 packets of junk food has been consumed during the event, therefore was not in the picture. What in the bag as shown: 01 fan with laser wordings + 03 batteries, 01 star light torch + 03 batteries, 02 sweets, discount vouchers, CD, Singapore Flag, tattos and stickers, animated cap – hei I got the “Enggang” cap.. reminds me of my sports day during my secondary school, I was in the Enggang team.. really fated.. oh to continue on the list was some wet tissues, dry tissues and a raincoat..and of course the bag was also given.. not bad where we can zip and and unzip those that we don’t want and easy storage as well. (refer to pics at the end of the page)
whew!. some of the entertainment has started. The event kick off with some sky drivers dropping down from the sky and parachuting down and land in the floating stage. After that would follow the parades of the army, navy, police, girl and boy guides, etc.. followed with some new defence stunt shows that they perform in the event of terrorist and so on.. This has always be the most boring part of the show. The only thing that was quite exciting was when the fighter jets do the flyover.
The stage was then lighten up with performance with grace, lights and costumes. People performing in inline scating, some opera singging and the usual performance that they normally will put out year after year after year.. The only thing that I was waiting for was the grand finale.. FIREWORKS! That is the only thing that makes the whole event worthwhile of going..
It is a very good event that is worth to go once in our lifetime. So, for the next upcoming years, I will still be watching it from my 21″ box TV in the comfort of my own home.
