When my aunt asked me to apply for this card, I was quite reluctant..why do I need to be the member for.. Can collect link points and can redeem to a cash vouchers was her reply. Every year they will return some money to us.. something like dividend. Quite cool ..
Then about 3 weeks ago, they sent us an email stating that there is a special promotion for a preview of a new show – The Last Legion starring Ben Kingsley and Aishwarya Rai.
The movie is about the ancient Rome was being defeated and it shows how a group of patriotic followers for the young crowned Caeser, managed to defeat the enemy at the end. Eventhough some of the background graphic looks quite superficial but the actions scenes in the movies are able to make up for it. However for those that have not watched and planning to pay the full price in a cinema, we could recommend to watch the movie from DVD, instead.
Movie Night.. August 30, 2007
Its me again… August 29, 2007
These few days.. has been feeling very lazy.. I had stop writing a few days.. hehe.. Now I am back! Hopefully keep it that way!
I was out on my sales call one day at Raffles Place and I remembered one of my clients once told me about a very interesting shop that she found around the area.. Since it is during my lunch break, I decided to hunt down the shop..
Oh there it is.. My Blood Type Shore
This store sells a lot of healthy snacks and drinks. Each snacks and drinks has indication on it whether which blood type is suitable and which is not.. same for the drinks also.. Each blood type got 2 types somemore.. one can absort something and the other cannot.. very “chimalogy” In order to know which type of Blood O you are have to go for blood test somemore..
Hmm… what i think is that life is short.. enjoy while you can.. eat what you want, do what you want and live life to the fullest and try not to have any regrets in your life.. Not much meaning in life if living your life by restricting yourself from eating/doing what you enjoy. Moderation is the key of everything.. don’t yar agree?
Friday Nite Out.. August 26, 2007
We had a night out after work last friday with a couple of colleagues and one ex-colleague. After thinking on the venue, we lastly decided to go to Holland Village for dinner and followed by drinks. Had a good time catching up with her and gossips!
We had our dinner at this cafe called Breko Cafe. Ordered some side dishes and some mains to share among us. I think we are the noisiest group among the whole cafe.
After dinner, we checked out the nearby bar. A bar that has been around but we did not get around to try it out. Yippee.. finally manage to find the occasion to check the place out. It is a bar called Eski Bar (http://www.eskibar.com/). From the name, rep of the bar and equip with our expectation, we walked into the glass door. Hmm.. its not that cold anyway.. One of their staff came approached us and got us a table. He must have sense our dissappointment, he showed us an area that is very “hot” behind. I was wearing my jacket, mind you and when we step into the room.. wow! Its absolutely freezing! So shiok.. we were just in the room less than 1 minute, and we started to shiver slightly.
We had some of their cocktails from there and after a couple of hours of gissips session, we decided to call it a night.. After so long never go such places or do such activities, it is a real eye/ear opener on what we can learn just from one night out!
Discount… August 22, 2007
Nowadays, a lot of companies are deperate for money!
When we walk down the Orchard Road and anywhere in town, first thing that you will notice are all the marketing gimmic.. from posters, tv ads, flyers to foot print stickers that was on the floor. Some of these marketing, they will offer special discounts to the people in order to attract them to buy their purchases or services. Is it a really good deal?
I have noticed this when we signed up for our yoga packages with one of the yoga centers in Orchard. “Oh this is a good offers.. must sign up today only you get this price.. the commitment is for 24 months…” thinking that I need to increase my exercise, so I took up the package. But little did I know that that was just the starting point.
After that, asking us to give names as the part of referrals and by giving the names, we will be given spa vouchers. They are all a couple of $100 vouchers and one $500 vouchers. However, here comes the catch.. You need to spend at least $300 at the spa in order to use the vouchers, which means you still have to pay $200 and as for the $500 vouchers, they require a package purchase of at least $800, so you have to fork out the remaining $300!
I suddenly have a feeling like being cheated. Why give you vouchers but you still need to pay? Yes, if you think from their business point of view, it is to encourage people to spend more at the spa. But for the consumer part, I personally don’t feel that it is generous enough..
So in future, if you come across such offers, better consider a few times to determine if it is really a good deal..
Katong Laksa.. August 21, 2007
As many people says as long there are chinese community, there will always have something to eat. In Singapore there are a lot of cuisine to choose from: Malay, Indian, Nyonya, Chinese, Western and many more. Most people loves to eat.. Well, we live only once, therefore must enjoy our life to our fullest. eat what we want, do what we wish to.. don’t you agree?
Today I treated myself to the most tastiest laksa in Singapore! After my morning appointments at East Coast Road, I found myself in a familiar area.. hmm… Just opposite the road is the famous katong laksa stall! Really cannot believe it.. it is just there.. mouth starts to water… and guess what it is near to lunch time… so off I went..
Took the elevator up and went across the overhead bridge. All the focus at laksa stall as though it will vanish… Alas! I reached and ordered.. yum yum…
Sat down with anticipation, nearly drooling and…voila.. the laksa is here! The first mouthful was the best.. the hot, spicy and “lemak” taste of the soup explode in your mouth is the best experience.. After finishing my bowl of laksa, even though would like to order for another, but manage to hold myself back.. This is an indulgence, therefore should not over do it in one occation.. Once you do, you lose the uniqueness of the cuisine.. and this way, I will still be looking forward for more! So.. next week katong laksa anyone?
Tiring Day.. August 20, 2007
Monday usually is the most dreaded day. Most Monday usually starts slow and pace will pick up as week goes by.
Our Monday always starts with out sales meeting where we share any informations that we gathered from our clients and for our boss to either update us on informations or also a place where we get buttered.
Today, is quite a tiring day, had to walk around the whole resort twice due to site inspections. By the time my last appointment ended.. I nearly collapse on my feet liao..
But I am not saying that other days are not tiring.. For my job, we walk a lot, is either outside at the city where we go from one company to another or we walk around the resort.
Come to think about it, it is not a bad idea as we do our daily exercises at the same time.. Killing 2 birds with 1 stone!.. As thought that’s not all, for hotel sales, we are always have to wear a jacket or coat. I tell you wearing one while walking along the streets during a hot sunny day is no joke.. as I had always says.. it is our own natural sauna.. just that it is mobile and cheap too! Quite cool, huh?
Movie Marathon.. August 19, 2007
All of us relax or destress in different forms. Indulgence to spa, going for holidays, active in sports, going for movies, or just simply stay at home with your favourite musics with your favourite books are some of the methods.
Today, me and a couple of friends went to Ang Mo Kio Hub to watch a couple of movies. The first movie that we watch is Rush Hour 3. It is a comedian action movie starring Jacky Chan and Chris Tucker. The movie is about 2 policemen trying to protect the ambassidor’s daughter while trying to arrest all the bad people. The story line is almost the same with the previous Rush Hour 1 and 2. Even though the story line is a bit bland, but the kungfu actions and the comedian parts spice up the movie.
Our second movie starts 1 hour after the first movie. The movie is about a secret agent, who lost his memory and trying to regain his memory and to find out his lost identity. It is an action pack movie and it would be an interesting movie to watch. The Bourne Ultimatum is a movie that shows how advance technology can be.. real scary..
Wet day… August 18, 2007
These few days the weather has been very gloomy. All grey and wet… Being a typical Singapore weather, a few days continuous hot and humid weather and over the sudden the weather change to wet and misery.
Today, it all started with a gloomy weather. Praying very hard that the weather will hold till the evening. However, as usual, it does not happen as you want it be. A few of us has planned to go East Coast for cycling. I was looking forward for the exercise after the indulgence that I had last night!
Even so, the group made our way to Bedok MRT to meet up with SP. However when we reach there, it started to drizzle.. To our regret, we have to scrap the entire idea of cycling all together for the day. Since plan A did not work out, the contingency plan of Plan B has to be planned at the spur of the moment. Decision to go to Packway Parade was made and from there we end up at KBox for some karaoke session.
After 3 hours of noise pollutions that a couple of us made, we decided we had enough of singing. We proceeded to Ajisen Ramen for dinner and we end the day at an ice-cream parlor, while chatting and discussion on our NZ trip, our jobs, bosses, etc…
Well, at least the gloomy weather did not spoilt our day!
Say Cheese! August 17, 2007
Normally friday for me and my colleague is always late night. Not for partying, mind you.. all the time is due to report that we have to do every week. Used to be those that are working on Saturday, we will go home slightly earlier as we are able to finish up our report on Saturday. However, these few days we try to finish our report on Friday instead.
Today we decided to go out for dinner and proceed to a place to chill out. My colleague recommended this fabulous cafe at Siglap. It is a very cozy cafe where people can just hang out for coffee and for their famous dishes.. CHEESECAKES!!! The cafe is The CheeseCake Cafe. It is a corner shop located at East Coast Road.
They have a very victorian with some retro touches design. It creates an atmosphere where you think that you are in oversea. With all the statues and water features being used, cozy sofas behind and some indoor and outdoor areas for their patrons, it is the perfect place for friends, family and colleagues to hang out, chill out, to wind down from the stressful week!
Being their famous menus (a dvd cover! very creative indeed..), we tried their cheesecakes. It is really nice.. creamy, not so dry and you won’t be sick of it after just a couple of bites. They have various types of cheesecakes… Walnut cheesecakes, blueberry New York cheesecakes, Oreo cheesecakes, peach cheesecakes and of course the original New York Cheesecakes!. they have more varieties but by the time we went there after a short queue, there isn’t much option left.
Being greedy, we had 3 types: Blueberry, Oreo and the original cheesecakes. When we had the first bite.. the whole table went quiet..then went “wow, that’s is real good!” and it really is..
When we finished our cakes, we regreted that we are unable to order more.. But we will surely be back! Very happy to find a good hang out place and I absolutely love Cheesecakes! Finally I am able to find a place that have good cheesecakes.. goody… It really reminds me of those cheesecakes that I had in Melbourne! Ok when can we go again…
Multi racial society.. August 16, 2007
We are staying in a society where we stay with a lot of people with different cultures and belief. Due to globalisation, the society is now mix with locals and expatrates from other countries. The main race in Singapore are Chinese, Malay, Indians and expatriates stands the minority. Therefore the society should have cultivated the understanding and respecting each other religion, belief and culture.
However, recently noticed that not all of them have adapted the respect for the other cultures, belief and religion. Sadly a few of them are my relatives. Whenever Indians enter into the same MRT cabins, my aunt will automatically bring out her axe oil.. Yes I do admit that due to some oil that they use, they do not smell like roses.. but I always try not to be so obvious and to try to tolerate it so not to offend them. (ehem..)
Another incident happen this morning, my next neighbour is a Malay then a couple down down the corridor stayed a Christian family. Unfortunately, their neighbour who is a buddhist just blast their newly purchased home theatre system their buddhist chanting. Even if you do not respect other people’s religion but at least have some basic courtesy to your fellow neighbours!
So early in the morning, at that level of volume they are going, there might be other neighbours who are trying to get more rest, will surely be disturbed. It is not necessary that when you are up early, all your neighbours have to do the same!
