Night Out.. June 29, 2008

Filed under: Night Out — funkiegal @ 10:09 pm

Friday night is always a night where people will take the opportunity to go out after work to catch up with friends, go clubbings or just go somewhere to have drinks.

As the sales team from our sister hotel from Bangkok – The Sukhothai, came down for the weekend. They came down to stay with us and also to shop! Just imagine, normally Singaporean loves to go Bangkok to shop but for this case is the other way round! They would buy at least 5 pair of Charles and Keith shoes and buy bags as well. They brought an empty suitcase just to put all their merchandise.

We arrange for a group dinner and we went to a restaurant at Clark Quay called The Quayside for seafood.. The restaurant provide aprons for everyone so that we do not get any gravy on us. We had a cold dish with some abalone and something like jellyfish which we can either eat it raw like sashimi or we can dip into a boiling soup as appetizer then we had chilli crab, black pepper crab, steam prawns (which I skipped), vegetables, fried rice, steam fish as well as  fried doughstick.. yum..

After dinner some of them decided to go back to hotel and left a handful of them which we brought them to a pub called The Pump Room. I have been there a couple of times, the music there was quite good especially their live band. We had a couple of drinks and had fun that night. Finally after the band last performance, we decided to call it off the night which is at 3am! That’s not all.. I am working the next day.. sigh.. lucky I was able to get up in time to go to work in time.

Without saying after work and whole of Sunday, I stayed at home to rest and to gain back my rest.. Well. at least is not a normal thing for me. Once a while, it was quite fun to have such outing.. but of course always hope that the next day I don’t need to work!

A New Image.. June 22, 2008

Sometimes, we have to take the courage and change our image once in a while.. probably just to create some newness and uniqueness in our life. If not, life can be very monotonous from our daily routine. We will not know what really suit us unless we explore them and then we will find what suit us and what’s not.

During my schooling days, I have always been having short hair up until I went oversea to study in Australia. Probably due to the cooling weather, when my hair reach my shoulders, it did not really irritate me so much. Back home, when my hair comes to shoulders, due to the hot and cold weather and we tend to sweat more it makes the hair starts to stick to my neck which it really irritated me.

I have been supporting my long hair for about 08 years, but got tired of it, therefore decided to just cut it short yesterday. Now I am having layered hair (slightly bob) up till my neck. The hairdresser asked me if i would like to have my cut hair as a souvenier.. Oh boy… nah.. I am not so sentimental on that.. Hair, we can grow back… so maybe one day I will let it be long again… if I have the chance to go overseas for at least 1 year! haha.. how I wish!

Well today, I had another badminton session with my RE colleagues together with SP. Was quite fun as this time we booked 2 courts for 2 hours and we have a court for all 4 ladies. So we played 2 hours straight! wow.. a really good workout! After the session we went to a restaurant called Oasis for teochew porridge! Was quite good and had a good time. Hope SP wasn’t bored as she did not know everyone there. Lucky one of my RE colleague’s wife is also working in Singtel and they have a common topic to talk about..

A week has gone.. June 21, 2008

With fluffy hair.. hope i will not turn out this way!

These few weeks, the days just goes by very fast. In a blink of an eye, its weekend again! This really makes you put some brakes on and reflect what have you accomplish during that week? Have you done what you wanted to do? Have you live it to the fullest? Most of us are just concentrating on our job and therefore our way of life has becoming like routine. Morning wake up, go to work, do OT then go home.. That’s it! How boring..

But last few weeks due to my block nose and cough I get tired easily. Not sure if it is due to the flu or due to the weather, hot and cold in a day, that makes us more lethargic easily. I realize that these few days I get tired very easily and always feels sleepy. Ok Ok.. I can hear you… not enough of sleep like now still on the computer.. Yes that’s probably one of the reason but somehow during weekends when I get to sleep in, I am not able to sleep late as what I used to be able to. Not sure if it is due to the “new” place, environment or just the feng shui thingy.. hmm.. or I am getting old.. oh no!

But I think my flu is recovering bit by bit.. not as noisy as before.. Ok I know its been some time.. not sure why this time round I can’t seem to get rid of it easily… especially my cough.. But at least now its much better.. but still the raindeer walking around with the red nose (after blowing my nose..urgh).

Hopefully after this weekend, I will be fully recovered! This coming weekend.. planning to go crop my hair and have a new image..  hopefully not the same as those that I had during school days.. if not I will look very nerdy and hope my hair this time round is not so fluffy comparing to ages ago..! will see how it goes tomorrow.. if I have the courage to do so! So get to show it off on Sunday – another badminton session with my RE colleagues.

A happy weekend.. June 15, 2008

Filed under: Weekend Activities — funkiegal @ 9:52 pm

Actually this weekend, there was nothing planned and was planning to just rest and sleep at home. But at the end it was a most happy weekend for me.

It was because my parents are here for the weekend and my mum made my favourite butter cake!!! yummy! We stayed overnight at my aunt’s place who has a 3-storey landed property near Thomon Road called The Springside. They have a small pond in the house and has a 42″ plasma tv where we watched sports channel. Last night was the first time watching The Artois Championship semifinal on TV and able to see the talented tennis players ie. Rafael Nadal vs Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic vs David Nalbandian. My favourite player?.. hmm.. Novak Djokovic.. coz he looks so boyish and cute..

This morning, we saw some golf tournament where we get to see Tiger Wood’s in action! Even though I am not a golfer.. but got to admit.. he is good! Just imagine, he can send the ball straight into the hole in 1 stroke from the rough! It was a really incredible shot (plus a little luck) especially you can see that he was experiencing some pains from his leg!.. Cool huh?

After lunch, we watched a Snooker tournament. This is a really a sports watching day.. But it was quite an informative day, I get to understand so many types of games today. But the most of happy time was spending time with my parents. Has been about 03 months I have not seen them, it was really good to see them again. Really miss them so much.. sigh..

Will make a trip back to BP next month..

Sick Again.. June 12, 2008

Singapore is always known for the humid and wet weather. But also because of the weather turns wet and hot within the day, many people with their poor resistance will be down with the common flu: sore throat, fever, cough and running nose.

Well.. after my trip I was down for at least a week and recovered for a few day, now I am down again. Sigh.. with my cough and as though it is not bad enough, I have a stuffy nose. Now, I am still the noisy one and also the reindeer walking around with the red nose!

Some tips to avoid:

- Drink more water.. (Look who’s talking..?)

- Eat more Vegetables and fruits

- Daily intake of Vit C

- More Rest & Sleep!

Semi Movie-marathon Weekend June 2, 2008

Filed under: Movies — funkiegal @ 11:19 pm

It was a great weekend.. Instead of the normal weekend when I just rest and relax at home. Last weekend is full of activities, maybe also because last Saturday I have to work half day, which I also had a busy morning, thanks to McDonald’s. As I was one of their members and has accumulated a lot of points over the last couple of years, now that they are terminating the program and we were given a dateline to redeem our points, therefore I though I was able to use my points to buy my colleagues breakfast. But to my dissappointment, when I went to the outlet at HarbourFront to redeem the points, their machine was spoilt and the manager told me that I have to go to other outlet to redeem. Hei.. that’s the last day to redeem and your machine so conveniently unable to use? What a rubbish.. Without losing hope, I took a train to Chinatown which is the next nearest McDonald and to my disgust, they did not have the machine. I have to go all the way to Dhoby Ghout to do so.. Even so, their machine was also spoilt. But I think their staff saw that I am about to blow my head off, she was so kind as to let me have my orders. And because of the time, I have to grab a cab to work that day. McDonald has a very bad system for this and if you allow people to redeem the points till that day, then don’t take away the machine till the next day, which on that day, many machines has been removed! How insincere can McDonald be and so full of crap!

On Saturday morning during office hours, we have a “gotong royong” – a session where many people work together to build a path behind our spa where it is an undevelop land with grass and trees. My spa colleagues normally uses that way as a short cut to our admin block. Guys will carry the concrete while ladies will fill up the holes of the concrete with small pebbles and earth. Eventhough it takes only 1 hour, but by the time we finish the entire project, we were all sweating with the satisfaction that the job is done!

After work and a quick dash home for a shower, I met up with SP for movies. The first movie that we watch was Sex and The City. It is from a popular TV sitcom and they made it into a movie. It is about 04 ladies coming to LA in search of Labels and Love and how they juggle jobs, motherhood, relationship, friendship, marriage which most women do. It is more or less a ladies movies since we understand them more!

After the first movie, we had a quick dinner at a Taiwan cafe nearby and followed with our 2nd movie: Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The show is about Indiana Jones being thrust back into his old adventuring. He races against agents of the Soviet Union for the crystal skull. His journey will take him across New Mexico, Connecticut, Mexico City and the jungles of Peru, as well as the warehouse from the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, where numerous treasures including the Ark of the Covenant are kept safe by the US government. As it was their signature closure, there will surely be one greedy guy trying to get as much gold and riches and with Indiana Jones they made a narrow escape. But for this time round, the bad guy dies together with gold due to the collapse of the building. It was a very action pack movie and is quite exciting.

The next day, I had shown some units to my aunt and followed with a 2-hour badminton session with my RE colleagues. After working out, sweaty and had a blister on my palm we decided to go for a movie, one that I wanted to watch as well: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It is the continuos from Narnia the first movie. The second movie features after a year from their first adventure in Narnia, the Pevensie siblings (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy) are pulled back in by Susan’s magic horn. They find that hundreds of years have passed and Narnia is now ruled by the bloodthirsty General Miraz, uncle to the true heir, Prince Caspian, who is now in exile. The children must find Caspian and help him get rid of Miraz. But there are some funny scenes as well, especially the mouse.. so cute..

It was really fun to be able to watch all the movies that I wanted to all in one weekend!
