Double.. duplicate again! November 14, 2008

Recently I find that I always have to watch a movie twice.. Hopefully it is not a trend..! The previous time I watched a movie 3 times – Wall E.. I love that movie.. the cute robots..  and it was so funny. Even so I did not expect to watch it for 3 times! Geez..

Now just last week I watched the latest James Bond movie - Quantum of Solace with V. It was a really action pack movie right from the beginning. A little politics, revenge, saving the girls, explosions.. and etc etc.. shall not go into details since there may be many have not watch the movie yet. But then, I find this new James Bond has no “James Bond” charisma.. Too rugged I find… Still prefer the previous one, even though this new James Bond is more energetic!

Surprisingly on Monday, on the way home, was chatting with my colleagues and we walked pass the OSIM shop at Vivo city, the staff there was helping to give out free tickets! The ticket was for 7pm show and when we got the tics was at 730pm. So we missed 30minutes of the show. Since I had watched the movie, it was not important to me. We were also contemplating whether to watch it or not. But then, it will be a waste since its FREE!!! haha.. ok ok.. a bit cheapo.. So we decided to watch it since my colleague has not watch the movie yet.

The seat that we had was just 4th row from the screen and at the side of the hall. The sound was deafening and with the huge screen, it was quite an experience especially on the explosion part.. By the time the movie end.. I think I can still hear the echo of it when we left the cinema. After a quick dinner, we headed home.

Well.. the movie is nice.. but to watch it again.. nah.. now free or not, no thank you.. really not interested anymore! I hope this is not going to be a continuing trend for me!

Pass time.. November 4, 2008

Filed under: Movies — funkiegal @ 11:45 pm

We shifted to this place for nearly a year and since then, we have to buy 2 units of table fan due to the broken fan blade when the fan fell with the mattress. The last time when I went to buy the fan, I had to wait for my aunt at the AMK hub for about 4 hours.

So while waiting for my aunt, to pass the time, I took the opportunity to watch a solo movie. The movie that I watched was ” The House Bunny”. This is comedy movie about a blond bimbo who stay and was being kick out from the playboy mansion by a rival. She ended up being a house mother for a sorority house for a University- Zeta Alpha Zeta which was the most unpopular sorority house in the University which had about 7 nerd students. So in order for the them to maintain the house, they have to increase their popularity… To achieve their goal, the bimbo has to teach the nerd students how to dress up and how to attract guys. While the bimbo taught them dress up, the students taught her knowledge and decency. Of course, they have to compete with the famous sorority house who wanted to take over their house. It was quite nice to watch.

Then the week after, I watched another show with SP – Butterfly Lovers. This is the chinese version of Romeo & Juliet. Of course this movie, it is to watch handsome guy (Wu Chun) only. Story line is the same. Due to family members, the girl was to marry someone else but the main actor, then reluctantly she drank the poison on her wedding day but after 3 days, she will be revived but sadly her lover did not know that and fought with the “husband” and was badly injured. At the end.. both died.. lame rite.?

Now just waiting for the James bond movie to be out. which is just a couple days later!.. looking forward to it!

Semi Movie-marathon Weekend June 2, 2008

Filed under: Movies — funkiegal @ 11:19 pm

It was a great weekend.. Instead of the normal weekend when I just rest and relax at home. Last weekend is full of activities, maybe also because last Saturday I have to work half day, which I also had a busy morning, thanks to McDonald’s. As I was one of their members and has accumulated a lot of points over the last couple of years, now that they are terminating the program and we were given a dateline to redeem our points, therefore I though I was able to use my points to buy my colleagues breakfast. But to my dissappointment, when I went to the outlet at HarbourFront to redeem the points, their machine was spoilt and the manager told me that I have to go to other outlet to redeem. Hei.. that’s the last day to redeem and your machine so conveniently unable to use? What a rubbish.. Without losing hope, I took a train to Chinatown which is the next nearest McDonald and to my disgust, they did not have the machine. I have to go all the way to Dhoby Ghout to do so.. Even so, their machine was also spoilt. But I think their staff saw that I am about to blow my head off, she was so kind as to let me have my orders. And because of the time, I have to grab a cab to work that day. McDonald has a very bad system for this and if you allow people to redeem the points till that day, then don’t take away the machine till the next day, which on that day, many machines has been removed! How insincere can McDonald be and so full of crap!

On Saturday morning during office hours, we have a “gotong royong” – a session where many people work together to build a path behind our spa where it is an undevelop land with grass and trees. My spa colleagues normally uses that way as a short cut to our admin block. Guys will carry the concrete while ladies will fill up the holes of the concrete with small pebbles and earth. Eventhough it takes only 1 hour, but by the time we finish the entire project, we were all sweating with the satisfaction that the job is done!

After work and a quick dash home for a shower, I met up with SP for movies. The first movie that we watch was Sex and The City. It is from a popular TV sitcom and they made it into a movie. It is about 04 ladies coming to LA in search of Labels and Love and how they juggle jobs, motherhood, relationship, friendship, marriage which most women do. It is more or less a ladies movies since we understand them more!

After the first movie, we had a quick dinner at a Taiwan cafe nearby and followed with our 2nd movie: Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The show is about Indiana Jones being thrust back into his old adventuring. He races against agents of the Soviet Union for the crystal skull. His journey will take him across New Mexico, Connecticut, Mexico City and the jungles of Peru, as well as the warehouse from the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, where numerous treasures including the Ark of the Covenant are kept safe by the US government. As it was their signature closure, there will surely be one greedy guy trying to get as much gold and riches and with Indiana Jones they made a narrow escape. But for this time round, the bad guy dies together with gold due to the collapse of the building. It was a very action pack movie and is quite exciting.

The next day, I had shown some units to my aunt and followed with a 2-hour badminton session with my RE colleagues. After working out, sweaty and had a blister on my palm we decided to go for a movie, one that I wanted to watch as well: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It is the continuos from Narnia the first movie. The second movie features after a year from their first adventure in Narnia, the Pevensie siblings (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy) are pulled back in by Susan’s magic horn. They find that hundreds of years have passed and Narnia is now ruled by the bloodthirsty General Miraz, uncle to the true heir, Prince Caspian, who is now in exile. The children must find Caspian and help him get rid of Miraz. But there are some funny scenes as well, especially the mouse.. so cute..

It was really fun to be able to watch all the movies that I wanted to all in one weekend!

10000 bc.. March 16, 2008

10000BC

Today at least my foot feels more or less 90% back to normal. Able to go up the stairs and down the stairs with minimal of pain or discomfort. Whew! Spraining of ankle is one experience I do not wish to repeat.

Which is quite good, this afternoon I managed to catch another movie with a couple of friends KY & SH. The movie we managed to catch is 10000 BC. This is movie is based as the title of the movie: 10 000 BC, where all the animals are all bigger than human beings.

It is about in a remote mountain tribe, the young hunter, has found his heart’s passion and when a band of mysterious warlords raid his village and kidnap the lady, the young hunter is forced to lead a small group of hunters to pursue the warlords to the end of the world to save her. He went through battles with saber-tooth tigers and prehistoric predators and, at their heroic journey’s end, they uncover a Lost Civilization where they found with the evil leader and manage to free the lady and save the slaves. (well.. hero always wins.. )

A great day.. March 9, 2008

The Leap Years

Today is a happy day, after waking up in the late morning, I visited one of my friend who has just given birth a cute 3.9kg baby boy at Thomson Medical Centre. I have always very fascinated in babies (except for the shrieking part, which I can’t stand it the most), from the time they are born where everything is so little – tiny nose, ears, toes, and fingers and gradually day after day the grew up and you watch them going through all stages, crawling to walking, started pronouncing a word till they are able to form a sentence. It’s amazing on all the stages human goes through from the time we enter into the world till the time we bid farewell to it.

Then in the late afternoon, I made an inpromptu decision to catch a movie – The Leap Year. It’s a love story.. ok ok I know some of you must be thinking.. again?! yup. Its a local production acted by Vanessa Lopez, Wong Li Lin. The movie is based on a novella by well-acclaimed writer, Dr Catherine Lim, the story talks about a young Singaporean girl having chance upon her special someone on 29th February. She decides to base her intuition on an Irish leap year tradition that no man will refuse any request of a lady and invites him out for a date. Together, they made a promise to meet on every leap year – 29 February.

It also shows how the lady (Li Lin) went through all her dissappointment, heartaches while waiting for her Mr. Right (Ananda Matthew Everingham). One of the scene when she ask her good friend (Qi Yu Wu) how he knows that his fiancee is the right one, he said he is happy when he sees her, and she makes him forget her (He was chasing after her but Li Lin only treated him as a good friend). This makes me ponder, to forget the one that you like and to letting go of the feeling is not an easy task, really hope that I will meet my Mr Right and hope the theory is right!

A sad sad story.. February 17, 2008

img_psiloveu.jpg

There are so many types of movies: horror, comical, romance, action packed, triller and fantasy movies. Normally ladies would prefer to watch romance movies because they are always end with a happily ever after.

Yesterday me and a group of friends watch a sad romance movie called: P.S I Love You. This movie is about how the wife deals with the death of her husband, whom she still love him very much. The amazing part is how the husband has wrote her letters and planned for her for the next 1 year to guide her through her grief and to continue with her life.

There were several touching scenes in the movie that makes me cry.. ok ok.. yes.. sue me..I am an emotional person.. call me whatever.. crybaby but it just gets to me.. After the movie we went to have our dinner at a Soup Kitchen where we lou hei again and celebrated SP birthday.

We got a love shape birthday cake for her and we got a present for her.. but might not be what she looking for.. hopefully she don’t really mind it and is the thoughts that counts… The day ends with a karaoke session at the nearby KBox in AMK hub :) Had some fun last night!

Korean Dramas.. September 19, 2007

Filed under: Movies — funkiegal @ 3:30 pm

There used to be a time where the hong kong dramas is very popular in the society here.. People tries to go back on time to catch their favourite dramas..either police or gangsters.. But as time goes by, Taiwan market took over and followed by Japanese craze and the latest was the Korean.. real wonder how they move.. they are not even geographically lined up!

It all started from Winter Sonata that helps to boost up the popularity of Korean dramas into Singapore market. Most of the dramas are mostly love stories.. It is either 2 ladies with 1 guy or 2 guys and 1 lady.. one of them will be a rich man or lady and another came from a not so well to do family.. of course not to forget the ever famous drama that hit the entire Asia – Jewel in the Palace – Da Chang Jing. About a palace maid life and how she overcomes all her obsticles and hardship.

Well.. not trying to miss out I also one of the person who caught up in the craze. For someone who always thinking of her bed able to get caught up in a drama and kept changing the dvds (03 episode in each dvds) every night.. just to watch what happen next.. you might be thinking the drama must be a very exciting one.. well.. it is a good drama but the story line is basically quite similar.. just that the scenarios is in the palace.. when the crown prince marries a commener..

The show shows how the commoners deals with the different culture and formality and how she adapt to the live in the palace. Of course.. how she and the prince falls for each other with other parties trying to stir up the peace in the palace. Oh if i have not mention the title of the drama, it is “The Princess Hour or Goong”

There a couple of dramas that I like to watch which are “The Wedding” and “Lovers In Paris” . Ok ok.. I admit it.. I am a sucker for happily ever after.. so sue me.. I just don’t like those dramas that does not have a happy ending… same for my books.. I read romance novels with happily ever after ending.. oh man.. I am a hopeless I know..well.. if you read those pathetic sad stories or shows and make you feel blue.. then what’s the point?

Movie Night.. August 30, 2007

Filed under: Movies — funkiegal @ 2:05 pm

When my aunt asked me to apply for this card, I was quite reluctant..why do I need to be the member for.. Can collect link points and can redeem to a cash vouchers was her reply. Every year they will return some money to us.. something like dividend. Quite cool ..

Then about 3 weeks ago, they sent us an email stating that there is a special promotion for a preview of a new show – The Last Legion starring Ben Kingsley and Aishwarya Rai.

The movie is about the ancient Rome was being defeated and it shows how a group of patriotic followers for the young crowned Caeser, managed to defeat the enemy at the end. Eventhough some of the background graphic looks quite superficial but the actions scenes in the movies are able to make up for it. However for those that have not watched and planning to pay the full price in a cinema, we could recommend to watch the movie from DVD, instead.

Movie Marathon.. August 19, 2007

Filed under: Movies — funkiegal @ 2:12 pm

All of us relax or destress in different forms. Indulgence to spa, going for holidays, active in sports, going for movies, or just simply stay at home with your favourite musics with your favourite books are some of the methods.

Today, me and a couple of friends went to Ang Mo Kio Hub to watch a couple of movies. The first movie that we watch is Rush Hour 3. It is a comedian action movie starring Jacky Chan and Chris Tucker. The movie is about 2 policemen trying to protect the ambassidor’s daughter while trying to arrest all the bad people. The story line is almost the same with the previous Rush Hour 1 and 2. Even though the story line is a bit bland, but the kungfu actions and the comedian parts spice up the movie.

Our second movie starts 1 hour after the first movie. The movie is about a secret agent, who lost his memory and trying to regain his memory and to find out his lost identity. It is an action pack movie and it would be an interesting movie to watch. The Bourne Ultimatum is a movie that shows how advance technology can be.. real scary..
